Inviting modern farmhouse cottage for family living in South Carolina
Designed by Court Atkins Group in collaboration with Lisa Furey Interiors, this modern farmhouse cottage is a mini-compound constructed over time. Located in Palmetto Bluff, Bluffton, South Carolina, this is the home of the designer and her family, which began with a small, single-story guest cottage. Eventually a carriage house was added on to the property of the daughters. As time went on, their needs grew and they realized they also required a larger gathering space for family and friends, the main house.
The challenge of this project was to construct a bright and airy home that maximizes views of the lake, while having enough room for everyone to congregate. An upside down/reverse floor plan was created for the home, where the main living areas encompass the upper level. A great room houses the kitchen, dining, living, deck and design studio. Expansive windows brings in light and views, while an open staircase creates a focal point in the entry. Vaulted ceilings and white walls helps to keep the small space feeling open and inviting.
